Radon Expert Supports Radon Resistant New Construction before Unicameral Committee in Nebraska

Wednesday, January 23rd by Mary Smith

Lincoln, NE - A radon expert will testify Wednesday before the Nebraska Unicameral's Health and Human Services committee. Curt Drew, president of National Radon Defense, will speak in support of LB 13, a bill to require new construction in Nebraska to be radon resistant. The testimony is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, January 23rd at 1:30pm in Room 1510 of the Nebraska State Capitol.

Radon is the number one in-home risk to Nebraska homeowners and the bill from Senator Bob Krist of Omaha would eliminate that risk in newly constructed homes.

Drew's testimony will cover many of the dangers of radon, including the facts that:

  • Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers.
  • Radon kills more than 21,000 people in the United States each year.
  • Most radon exposure comes within a person's home
  • Radon is the number one in-home risk to Nebraskans.
  • Nearly 60% of the homes in Nebraska tested for radon in the past twenty years have had high levels of radon.

Drew is the owner of National Radon Defense, an international network of leading radon professionals. Drew has spent years studying the dangers of radon and how to best reduce or eliminate those dangers in homes, businesses, schools and other buildings.
