Making a Bedroom Warmer and Reducing Ice Damming in Tolland, CT

These homeowners in Tolland, CT, asked us out to their home to see if we could help them with a problem they were having . The problem was that they were having severe ice dams and the temperature in the rooms on the upper level were inconsistent all year round.  We got to the home and sat down with the customer to go over their concerns once more before conducting out Full Home Energy Evaluation. After a long search, we found out that their attic was full of old, nasty fiberglass insulation. Since fiberglass is so fluffy, it easily allows air to travel through it and is not a proper thermal barrier. Now we know what we need to do.

We conduct the unpleasant task of removing the damaged, soiled insulation from the attic. We use a long fat vacuum hose and such all of that insulation out of the attic. We also remove all of the left over particles and dust. Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solution, this attic is ready for some new, fresh insulation!

Replacing a Bulkhead Door in Tolland, CT

This homeowner in Tolland, CT called us hoping that we would be able to help her with her bulkhead door. It was over 30 years old, and it was ready to be replaced. It was rusty and unattractive, and the homeowner wanted a new one.

We were able to help this customer. We installed a beautiful new bulkhead door. We had to pour concrete to create a base. Once the concrete was set, we installed the bulkhead door. We caulked around the edges and installed flashing behind the door to ensure a tight fit. Now, this homeowner has a new, beautiful bulkhead door that will look nice for years to come!

SuperAtticâ„¢ Installation in Amston, CT

This Amston, CT homeowner reached out to Fogarty's Home Services concerned about their attic space. They were using this space for storage, but it wasn't energy efficient. Their attic floor was allowing air from inside the house to leak into the attic where it was lost. For each cubic foot of air that leaks out, a cubic foot of air from the outside enters the bottom of the house, making the lower levels cold and drafty. Their attic was a hostile environment because of the increased cold in the winter and very uncomfortable heat in the summer in this space. To combat this issue, Fogarty's Home Services installed our SuperAttic™ system. We use SilverGlo™ EPS foam insulation board with graphite on the underside of the roof deck. The graphite gives it superior R-value and a foil face on both sides reflects heat out in summer and back in during winter. The roof is still vented. No harsh chemicals are sprayed in your home, like spray foam. The attic is now part of the conditioned space in the home, and ducts in the attic are no longer in a hostile environment. The attic is clean, less dusty and suitable for storage. We Fix Uncomfortable Homes!

Insulating a Basement with Foamax Board in Orange, MA

This homeowner in Orange, MA called us in order to bulk up her basement's insulation. When we arrived in the home, we noticed that her basement's poured concrete walls were not insulated. This is fairly common -- but it can affect the temperature of the basement, making it colder than you would like it to be and, unfortunately, harder to heat. This meant that their energy bills were higher than they should be.

The best way to protect and insulated poured concrete walls is to use insulation board. We installed our Foamax polyisocyanurate (Polyiso) foam insulation boards on all of the walls of this basement. They install right over the concrete! As a bonus, they are also flame retardant, so it can be exposed in the basement unlike other types of foam. This insulation board makes a noticeable difference in a space -- the basement feels warmer and more comfortable, and the home is easier to heat!
