This home owner in North Granby, CT called us because they had big ice dams on there home. Ice dams can be very disruptive to a home and could cause you to pay thousands on fixing the damage they made. Ice dams occur when heat from your living space escapes into the attic and heats the roof deck. This will melt the snow on the roof. The water runs down to the gutter line and refreezes. The more snow that melts, the bigger the dam gets and more of a chance it damages your home. To fix this we have to stop the heat from entering the attic. First thing we do is remove the old insulation and start air sealing. this will stop heat from coming through any gaps, cracks, or any other penetrations. After this we blow our Trusoft cellulose insulation to a R-value of R-60 to further protect the home. Now that this is done. The heat from your home will not be able to reach the roof deck and cause any more ice dams!
This customer in North Granby, CT called us out to help them understand a problem they were having in their home. The problem was that they could not keep their home cool in the summer not matter what. This was due to a lack of appropriate insulation in their cathedral style attic. This home had fiberglass and cotton insulation which is fluffy and easily allows air and heat to leak. This style home has rooms that are exposed to hostile attic temperatures. These homeowners were uncomfortable in their homes during the winter and summer due to significantly hot and cold rooms.
To fix this we need to properly remove and dispose of the old, fiberglass and cotton insulation. We remove the insulation and place it in bags to safely dispose of the materials. Next we install our SilverGlo. We measure and cut our 4' SilverGlo to fit. SilverGlo insulation is composed of foam boards infused with graphite, which produces a 24% increased R-Value. We install our foam board and secure the pieces with heavy duty screws and washers to keep them in place. We spray our one-part foam between each piece of SilverGlo to make sure there are no areas where heat and air can still escape. Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, these customers can live energy efficiently, and stay cool this summer!
End plates are at the top of every single wall in the home. The problem with end plates is there's generally a quarter inch to an inch gap left during construction of the home. This allows for air leakage which lets the cool air escape the home in the summer and warm air to escape in the winter.
When the hot air leaks into your attic in the winter, ice dams occur on your roof. Ice dams can cause thousands of dollars of damage to your home!
Air sealing end plates is the first, and most important, of multiple treatments to eliminate ice damming.
This home owner in West Simsbury,CT had called us to his home to investigate his cold, dry basement. When we got there we noticed his basement door had seen better days. What we did was take out the old door and the old framing and went to work putting in new framing and putting in a new steel insulated door. It is important to put in new framing because the old wood was not pressure treated and was starting to rot away. After the door is installed, we insulate and air seal the pockets and seams so no air can get in when the door is closed. Now this basement will not have cold, dry air leak into the basement.
This homeowner in Ashfield, MA called us out to their home to help them make a bedroom warmer and increase energy efficiency in their home. When this home was constructed there was a room built with an exposed wall to the attic. This will let the harsh outdoor air into the room that you are paying to heat or cool while letting that cooled or heated air out. This results in the room being too hot or too cold, and high fuel and electric bills.
To fix this uncomfortable bedroom, we want to get right to work. We install our SilverGlo foam insulation board and seal it with special long screws to the attic side of the bedroom wall. We foam between any SilverGlo pieces to make sure air is not able to continue to leak in or out.
Now, this room will be more comfortable, affordable, and energy efficient thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions!
