Insulating an Attic in Bloomfield, CT

This homeowner in Bloomfield, CT called us looking to have his attic insulation replaced. When our Home Comfort Specialist arrived at the home, he noted that this customer had large fiberglass batts for insulation. The insulation was dirty, covered in rodent droppings, and was in desperate need of replacement. It was obvious that there was an air leak of some kind in this attic due to the dirt that was strewn across the insulation.

We were able to help this customer with a short process. First, we removed the fiberglass batts that were in his attic. We then went in and air sealed in all of the tight spaces of the home -- between boards, in joints, et cetera. We then installed our TruSoft™ cellulose insulation in the attic. This insulation is blown in with a large machine. Since it is blown in, it is able to rest in all of the hard-to-reach nooks and crannies - making sure that there are no spots left uninsulated.

This will drastically help the temperature of the home as well as keep the homeowner's energy bills down for years to come!

Insulating a Basement in Bloomfield, CT

This homeowner in Bloomfield, CT called us hoping that we would be able to help her with her basement insulation. She had old insulation she needed to have replaced, as she had a rodent issue and high humidity in her basement. In a basement, the “rim joist” is the perimeter of the floor framing system along the exterior of the house. The joints and gaps between all the framing members allow for a lot of air leakage into the house. The rim joist is seldom insulated and never air sealed. Basement ceiling insulation, especially fiberglass batts, doesn’t stop the flow of cold air into the home. Results - cold floors, drafty, uncomfortable rooms, cold basement/lower level, higher heating and cooling bills and more condensation in the basement or crawl space in the summer.

We had the perfect solution for this customer! In this solution, we spray foam the rim joist in the basement in order to seal and insulate it. Two part expanding spray foam is installed on the rim joist and over the sill plate to seal all air leaks from the outside and insulate this important area of the home. Our spray foam has a high insulation value per inch of R7, and because it expands, it seals all cracks and gaps and joints where air from the outside enters the home. Results - warmer floors, less drafts, more comfortable rooms, the house is easier to heat and costs less to heat, less summertime condensation on cold basement surfaces.

Insulating an Attic in Florence, MA

This homeowner in Florence, MA called us hoping that we would be able to help with her attic. She had recently purchased the home, which had vermiculite insulation. This was removed due to the fact that it had asbestos in it.

We were able to help this customer! As there was no insulation when we began working in the attic due to the removal of vermiculite that had taken place, we were able to immediately begin air sealing, making sure that all cracks and crevices were sealed. We used Zypfoam™ one part spray foam to air seal. We then used a long hose attached to a machine that blows our TruSoft™ cellulose insulation into the attic. TruSoft™ cellulose is able to fill all gaps and odd-shaped voids, as it is blown in insulation.

Now, this homeowner is able to enjoy her new home!
