Help for a Humid Basement in St. Thomas, ON

Problem:  Even newer homes can have problem basements. This basement often felt damp and smelled musty. Excess water vapour was entering the space from the unsealed sump pump lid.

Solution: To help control humidity, we installed the super quiet and efficient SaniDry™ Sedona Dehumidifier. It’s connected directly to their updated sump pump system, so with regular maintenance, these homeowners will never have to worry about excess moisture or a damp feeling basement again.

Wet Basement Cold Storage Area, St. Thomas ON

Problem: An unfinished cold storage area is a great place to store items to keep cool, such as canned food, even in the warm summer months. Although closed off from the rest of the house, if there’s water penetrating any area, it creates a damp, humid and unhealthy environment which affects the entire home in what is known as “The Stack Effect”.

Solution:  We installed a French drain system on the problem walls in the cold storage area, added a powerful sump pump with a battery backup for improved drainage and reliability and finished it off with our BrightWall® rigid basement wall system. Now this cold storage area is dry, heathy and will look fantastic for years to come.

Water Penetrating Through the Floor of a Basement Springfield, ON

Problem: This home has an unfinished basement that is used to house the laundry and mechanical components of the home; such as the hot water tank, electrical and the heating system. There was considerable evidence that water was penetrating from some of the exterior walls as well as up through the floor of the basement; causing cracks, water to pool on the floor and damage to the systems of the home.

Solution: Our team installed a perimeter drain on the leaky walls as well as a trench drain in the problem areas of the floor. We then finished off with some concrete work. Now these homeowners enjoy a clean, dry and safe basement as well as peace of mind knowing that the basement and home’s systems won’t suffer from any further water damage.

What a transformation!

Sealing Crawl Space Vents, Southwestern ON

Problem:  Open crawl space vents allow for the outside air to easily enter a crawl space. Fluctuations in weather combined with the naturally damp and humid environment in a crawl space means a home is likely to have cold floors, higher humidity and a damp, musty smell.

Open crawl space vents are also an invitation to pests to live under your home!

Solution: We replaced all the open vents and installed airtight vent covers. Although the covers are only part of creating a healthy and dry crawl space environment – it’s an important step!

Sump Pump in a Dirt Floor Crawl Space, Ingersoll Ontario

Problem:  An open sump pump pit is an undesirable feature in homes: but especially when it’s located within a dirt floor crawl space. Dirt and debris can easily enter the pit causing the pump to clog and malfunction. The open pit adds unwanted excess humidity in an already challenging environment.

Solution:  Our crew installed the Triple Safe™ sump pump and pit liner; a sump pump system designed for crawl spaces. This pump is fully compatible with our complete crawl space vapour barrier system, which the homeowners also had installed.

With regular yearly maintenance, these homeowners now enjoy the comfort of knowing their sump pump system is efficient, working and reliable!
