Sometimes homeowners are shocked to see what is behind their basement wall coverings, such as paneling or drywall. These Amherstburg, Ontario homeowners noticed:

-         Windows and doors were hard to open

The problem? The scariest kind of crack: A horizontal crack and it was beginning to bow inwards.

In the "before" photo, you can see the tilt of the window frame is a result of a problem hidden behind the wall. 

We secured steel I-beams to the joists above the wall with heavy-duty steel brackets. The system not only stabilizes the wall and can often be tightened to help return the wall to its original position. Problem:  These owners made great use of this garage cellar as storage for their seasonal items, unfortunately, this area was experiencing water penetration for years. Mould was starting to form on the cardboard, damage items sitting on the floor and the musty smell was permeating, well… everything.

Problem:  These home owners had an unfinished basement which during rainfall would leak. The walls were unappealing; looking old and damaged.  

Solution: Our Advanced Basement Systems team waterproofed the two problem walls, then installed BrightWall® panels to give the basement a nice, clean and fresh look.

BrightWall® panels are made of a 100% waterproof rigid plastic paneling – perfect for unfinished basement walls. It's durable, washable, and will not support the growth of moud or rot. These panels also keep humidity and water vapor from passing through the foundation walls and into the basement. Any water seepage through the walls is directed into the drainage system.

This home in Amherstburg, ON needed some insulation!  We installed closed-cell spray foam insulation at R18 (about 3" thick) on the perimeter walls. 
Since this basement will not be finished with drywall, it is recommended that a thermal barrier paint is applied over the foam. 
The white-finish you see on the foam is the thermal barrier paint, which we are certified to install, with an airless spray unit.
