Air Duct Cleaning

Why Clean Your Air Ducts?

Dirty Ducts

Today’s homes are airtight becoming more and more energy efficient trapping dust, mold spores, pollen, smoke, pet dander, chemicals, and other particulates within the home.

In a typical six-room home, up to 40 pounds of dust is created annually through everyday living. Your heating and cooling system is the lungs of your home. The system takes air in and breathes air out.

Through normal occupation in a home, we generate a great deal of contaminants and air pollutants, such as dander, dust, and chemicals. But a healthy home can mean a healthier you and a healthy family.

Indoor air pollution is a serious health hazard and can cause or worsen such ailments as eye irritations, allergies, asthma, headaches, and skin rashes.

National Radon Defense's rule of thumb is that "if your ducts look dirty, they probably are." To get started on duct cleaning or other radon or indoor air quality needs, contact your local NRD dealer!

The National Radon Defense Indoor Air Quality Duct Cleaning Process:

Step 1: Inspect - Do they need to be cleaned? The first step is to have your HVAC system inspected. Our video inspection system is done to show you exactly what your air ducts look like in your home.

Many homes we inspect are actually not dirty, so we don’t recommend cleaning them. Most homes need cleaning every 5 to 10 years. The digital video camera will show both of us if the service is necessary.

There are 3 Critical Issues that will require immediate action: 1- visible mold growth; 2- vermin infestation (rodents or insects); and 3- clogged duct runs. If any of the 3 Critical Issues exist, duct cleaning needs to take place as soon as possible.

Clean Air Ducts

National Radon Defense dealers are extensively trained to clean your entire system (not just partial cleaning like many lower quality services). We know that failure to clean all components of a contaminated system can result in re-contamination of the entire system.

Step 2: Clean Air Ducts and Air Handler: Once it is determined that your air ducts should be cleaned, the next step is to clean the ductwork for dust, debris, and contaminants. This will include cleaning the cooling coils and drain pans.

The technician will remove the registers, so they can be cleaned, as well as, make way for the cleaning equipment. The air ducts are then brushed, vacuumed, and cleaned. The technology we utilize will agitate and loosen debris within the air ducts while the negative air pressure from a high-powered vacuum cleaner collects the dislodged debris.

The negative air pressure is created by focusing on one vent at a time and closing off the other openings in the system. The cleaning process starts with the most remote supply ducts, then the return ducts while the technician works towards the air handler.

A HEPA filter vacuum is used for topical vacuuming of all the air handler components.

Step 3: Re-Examine the Air Ducts: National Radon Defense Indoor Air Quality professionals will carefully examine and video tape the air ducts after the cleaning process is complete.

Each customer receives a video demonstrating what the air ducts look like before and after the cleaning process. This is important to show you specifically the condition of your ducts, to provide you peace of mind that the job was done right!

Optional Services: Upgrade Filtration and Seal Air Ducts.

Breathe EZ filter

The Breathe EZ filter’s the large and very small particles to keep your air ducts from getting dirty again, AND eliminates health risks in your home caused by indoor air contaminants.

Beyond air duct cleaning, National Radon Defense offers optional services to provide you with a healthier home.

Option 1 - Upgrade Filtration: What if you never had to clean your ducts again??? Well, that could be possible if you install a Breathe EZ Air Cleaner!!

Upgrading your HVAC’s air filter will eliminate, or at least reduce the frequency between cleanings, and improve your home's indoor air quality. National Radon Defense will install the most cost effective and highest performing option, a Breathe EZ Air Cleaner. National Radon Defense designed the Breathe EZ Air Cleaner to filter Radon Decay Product (RDP), allergens and particulates, mold spores, viruses, odors, and air borne chemicals.

Option 2 - Seal Ductwork: To optimize your HVAC systems efficiency, it is recommended to have your air ducts sealed completely. Many air ducts were installed without proper sealing, thus leaking out conditioned air you paid to condition. Also, air contaminants can leak in! Sealing your ductwork will help reduce or eliminate future contamination and improve comfort and energy efficiency in your home, thus saving you money on your heating and cooling bills.

If you or your family have concerns about the quality of air inside your home, let us help you! Find your local NRD dealer and get started on needed duct cleaning or other services.
