Iowa Homeowner Takes Action Against High Radon Levels with Mitigation System

After hearing concerns about elevated radon levels throughout the Hospers, Iowa area, a homeowner decided it was time to take a proactive approach to protecting their home and family. Although every home is different, radon is a common issue across Iowa, making radon testing and mitigation an important investment in long-term health and safety. A professional radon mitigation system was installed to help reduce radon levels and improve indoor air quality inside the home. The homeowner wanted peace of mind knowing they had taken the necessary steps to address a potential radon problem before it became a larger concern. This project highlights the importance of radon awareness in Iowa and the value of installing a reliable radon mitigation system to create a healthier home environment.

Radon Mitigation for Two Story Home With Future Addition Plans

This older two-story home tested at 6.8 pCi/L, prompting a smart radon mitigation plan designed with future expansion in mind. With another addition planned, the system will exit on the east side, avoiding interference with upcoming construction. The design includes two sub-slab extraction points on either side of the poured foundation wall, with one placed near the plumbing stack. The system will core low through the foundation and route around the soffit for a clean finish. Care was taken to preserve the homeowner’s layout, allowing furniture to remain in place. To further improve indoor air quality, the project also includes duct cleaning and a Breathe EZ filter installation.

Red Brick Ranch Radon Fix: Custom System for Stubborn Levels in a Geothermal Home

After putting off mitigation for some time, this homeowner in a brick walk-out ranch was ready to take action. With radon levels at 14 pCi/L, it was clear that a more effective and permanent solution was needed. There was no sump pit, only exterior drain tile and pea gravel beneath the slab, plus a hidden passive pipe that proved unreliable. To deliver reliable radon abatement, we designed a 2-point sub-slab extraction system along the north wall, spaced 15 feet apart (disregarding the outdated job drawing). The system will exit through the block wall and brick, with a fan and muffler installed on the side of the home, carefully routed around the soffit for a clean finish.

They currently operate an ERV system with geothermal HVAC, which we encouraged them to run more consistently. A custom Breathe EZ (29x25) unit with L brackets is part of the plan, replacing the awkward filter stack they currently use (16x25x2 + 14x25x2). Sealed 25 feet of visible slab cracks near the HVAC system and finish with duct cleaning and standard fogging; creating cleaner air and real radon reduction.
